Why do you no longer recommend Younifi?
Michelle Moore has been using Plant Therapy essential oils for years with great results. As of March of 2024, Plant Therapy is the only brand of essential oils that we recommend. Rest assured that we will only recommend product brands that we have personal experience in using, that we trust, that can be depended on to fulfill orders in a timely fashion, and that stand behind their products with good customer support and service.
A carrier oil is a non-medicinal or a "neutral" oil used to dilute essential oils. Many essential oil remedies and methods work best if the essential oil is not used at full strength. The easiest way to reduce the strength of an essential oil is to dilute it in a carrier oil. Common carrier oils include grapeseed oil, jojoba oil and olive oil. Because carrier oils can go rancid quickly, essential oils should only be diluted immediately prior to use.
Water is a poor carrier for essential oils because water does not dissolve oils well. Water can even make stronger oils (such as oregano and thyme) feel hotter and more irritating on the skin. For example, if you put a strong oil on your skin and it burns, water will only make it burn worse. However, grape seed oil or olive oil will reduce the burning and dilute the oil.
How long will essential oils last?
If you keep them closed and in a cool, dark place, most essential oils can last for years. This is only true of undiluted 100% pure essential oils. If an essential oil has been diluted or extended with a carrier oil, they will not last nearly as long. In fact, essential oils (such as cumin oil) found in ancient Egyptian tombs thousands of years old was tested and found to be in good, usable condition and of excellent quality. However, we recommend that you use your essential oils within a year or two and comply with any expriation dates if and when present on a product.
I’m having trouble pouring essential oils. How to I pour just one drop?
Some essential oils, such as eucalyptus oil, are very thin and runny, therefore, it is hard to get just one drop, even if you pour the bottle very quickly. Lemon, peppermint and Spice for Life blend are also thin oils.
To drop from an oil bottle, rotate the bottle upside down until you get the desired number of drops. If you only want one or two drops, quickly rotate the bottle upside down and immediately rotate it back right side up again in one fluid motion - without spending time in the upside down position. This is a quick motion (0.5 to 1 seconds to rotate upside down and back right side up again). The slower you try to pour, the more drops will come out. This is an easy process once you get the hang of it with a little practice.
More pouring tips:
- keep the air hole of the bottle toward the sky as you rotate the bottle upside down to pour (this will keep extra oil from pouring out of the air hole, making it harder to control).
- If the bottle is close to empty, keep the air hole facing down instead of up, allowing oil at the bottom of the bottle to exit through the air hole.
- If the bottle is nearly empty, you can pry the plastic pouring flange out of the glass bottle with your fingernail or a screwdriver and pour the last few drops directly out from the bottle.
- To make pouring easier, firmly tap the upright bottle a few times down onto a table to get rid of air bubbles in the air hole and the pour hole just prior to pouring.
- If you get a drop or 2 extra, that’s typically not a big problem (the doses don’t need to be exact).
